Rabbi Marcy Delbick

Rabbi Marcy G. Delbick comes to Congregation B’nai Or via the Los Angeles area.  She served as the rabbi for Temple Beth El in Salinas, CA for seven years before returning to LA with her husband, Paul. The couple has two sons; Ben graduated San Diego State University in May 2018 and Ezra is a rising sophomore at the same University.
Rabbi Delbick was born in Scranton, Pa. and at the age of fifteen moved with her family to Laramie, WY.  Living in Laramie offered Rabbi her a unique Jewish experience.   Laramie had a very small Jewish community and she quickly learned it was up to her to pursue her own personal Jewish identity.  Life in Laramie also provided her with her first chance to assist with religious services and the opportunity to positively represent Judaism to the broader community. Rabbi Delbick continued to study art in Laramie and found herself inspired by the stunning Wyoming landscapes. She became an avid sports fan as she and her family enjoyed the many benefits of living in a college town which included attending Wyoming Cowboys football and basketball games.
Rabbi Delbick earned a BA in English from UCLA and a JD degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School. Rabbi Delbick was ordained in 2009 at The Academy for Jewish Religion, California (AJRCA), a trans denominational institution (i.e., it does not adhere to a specific Jewish movement, preferring to embrace the richness of diversity).  She received her master’s degree in Rabbinic Studies. Her thesis was titled “Learning to be Jewish in Uganda.”
For the past several summers, Rabbi Delbick has taught “Clay Hand Building” for the art program at Camp Ramah in New England.  She enjoys the opportunity to blend her love of art and passion for Judaism.
Rabbi Delbick eagerly anticipates joining Congregation B’nai Or and is looking forward to coming to St. Croix in September 2018 for the High Holy Days!
